He agreed and continued to listen and participate well. I thanked him for doing well so far and asked if would stay just a little bit longer until I finished teaching this part of the lesson. He sat through the first few minutes of class very well, then politely raised his hand and asked if he could leave. The other student has permission to go to the resource room after asking if he feels that he needs to be in a different environment to learn. The next day he came in and apologized for his bad behavior and explained that he didn't mean to be disrespectful to me and really looked and sounded like he meant it. My cooperating teacher e-mailed one of their mothers. On Thursday they had a really hard time settling down and behaving themselves. Oh, I forgot to give my highlight of the week! I have a couple of trouble makers in 7th grade. I did get them to settle down from the argument, but the classroom dynamic was still pretty weird for the whole class period. I don't even know what they were yelling about but two students were in a heated verbal argument which caused the whole class to join in. I had kids yelling at each other, and not in the "calling to a friend across the classroom" kind of way. ![]() Part of that problem was not related to math at all which was an added challenge. ![]() I even tried to spice it up by incorporating activities into the lesson where they got to create their own scatter plots based on height and arm-span, but they still had a hard time listening to directions and paying attention. Overall the students were pretty good the first half of the week, but by Thursday and Friday my 8th graders were driving me crazy! I was trying to teach them about scatterplots and the line of best fit and they were just not having it. ![]() This was also related to the behavior in my classroom. By the time Friday did eventually roll around for me I was so ready for the weekend. Monday felt like Tuesday and Wednesday night when I went to bed I thought I would be waking up on Friday. It was short and sweet and then we got back to work. 1st to students demonstrating good PBIS (positive behavior). The meeting I did go to was a PBIS meeting where we were told to pass out candy on Apr. So, I stayed in to review the tests with the students and answer questions if any came up. I have gone to a couple of these, but we had students coming in to retake tests at the last minute and it just happened to be at the same time. The second meeting my cooperating teacher went to without me was a STEM PLC meeting with 2 math, 2 science, and a sped teacher. It would have been a good meeting to go to, but I got the impression that I should stay in the room and keep working on my stuff. I think the high school and elementary math teachers were discussing curriculum and making sure the 6th grade students were prepared for the transition into 7th grade math in the high school. The first one he told me not to worry about and that he'd be back in about an hour. I had also planned on going to whatever meetings my cooperating teacher was scheduled for, but ended up only going to one that lasted for approximately three minutes. I probably should have spent some of that time working on my TPA too, but that didn't happen. This gave me a lot of time to work on lesson plans for the rest of the week and job applications. I had put a lot of grades in the computer over the weekend, so I didn't have too much to do in that regard. Monday was a teacher in-service day to get grades in and go to meetings since third quarter ended last Friday. ![]() I've really enjoyed getting to know and work with these classes. They are just such a funny group and we had a great time laughing while doing the math. I had a lot of good conversations with these students while I was traveling between groups during the two class periods we spent on this assignments. Toward the end of last week we did a group project type assignment which the students all seemed to appreciate. My geometry classes have been learning about trig and inverse trig. I think they're all pretty prepared for their upcoming tests, though, so I'd say we're in a good spot. My 7th and 8th graders were working on Study Island, a computerised MCA Test Prep program and my biggest challenge with them was keeping them working quietly. Last week I was super busy with extracurricular activities, so school was a little a little rough for me, but we got through. But I'm back to the world of technology, so here's my weekly update. all weekend for a half-marathon and didn't have internet/computer access.
